A Beauty Created WITH Instructions!

October 14, 2013 at 8:00 amCategory:Jewelry

I love making jewelry, well…ok, I must confess. I get stuck when I attempt to make jewelry. Sometimes, I just sit and stare at the beads and hope that something magical will inspire me. I created this necklace at one of Marty’s gigs over the Summer. Yes, it has taken me this long to post it. (not sure why)

I went to a bead show with some friends a few months ago and picked up this kit to create this necklace. I’ll tell you it was so much easier to create a necklace when I didn’t have to pick out the beads and other goodies. This came with all the stuff I needed including directions and it was done before Marty was done tootin’ his trumpet at the gig! IMG_1791

It started with something on the floor…

Inspiration comes from the most unusual places sometimes. This time it came from something one of my pals at work found on the floor. Well, I think it was on the floor. I know for sure she found it and it ended up on her desk. As soon as I saw it, I knew it needed a new life.  That earring was missing its buddy and perhaps a bead or something was in the middle. It had a ton of life left in it! I took it from my friend and promised her I would turn it into something special. She had to wait months for it because I had forgotten about that little treasure. After some going back and forth with some silly posts with her on Facebook one night, I dug that little earring out of my stash.

I love making jewelry but sometimes get stuck with beginning a piece. I have tons of jewelry ideas on my Pinterest to inspire my ideas. This time, I dumped out my zillions of charms and started playing. I knew I wanted to make an eclectic piece with a vintage vibe. IMG_0382

Here is the finished piece. The little “find” is on the bottom of the piece…what do you think? Did it get a brand new life? My friend LOVED it and has worn it almost everyday since I surprised her with it. So thrilled that she is enjoying it so much!IMG_0383

Would you pay BIG BUCKS?

August 18, 2012 at 8:00 amCategory:Jewelry

I saw a similar necklace on the Anthropologie site quite some time ago. I don’t remember what the necklace cost but I knew I wouldn’t pay it. AND…I knew I could make the same type of necklace for pennies. This necklace took me about ten minutes…ok, maybe a little longer but that was only because it took a little time to pick the beads. These are some big glass beads that I picked up and then didn’t know what I would do with them. They were just a little too big for mini books or earrings. BUT, perfect for this necklace. I tore apiece of fabric and embraced the threads that were hanging off of it. A few knots and some big beads…and my necklace was born! I left a long bit of fabric on the ends so I could tie a bow in the back to wear it. It looks cute when I pull my hair up so you could see the bow in the back! I plan to make more with other fabrics and bead combos. If you would like to see a youtube video on this, let me know in the comments. I can easily show you and it would give me an excuse to make another necklace.

Handmade Vintage Jewelry

June 14, 2012 at 8:00 amCategory:Jewelry

Just a few pieces of jewelry that I made. I was selling items for a little while on TopHatter. Loved it just haven’t had the time lately. Maybe I need to add that to my summer “to do list”. The first and last necklaces were really easy. Those charms were from 7 Gypsies and came like that. The second one was just a few charms put together on a pretty chain. All easy and fun to make.

Simple Yellow Earrings

My mom made my day and picked up tons of treasures at a yard sale. LOTS of beads, broken jewelry and sparkly bits. There were so many fun things in that stash…possibilities were endless. In that stash, there were these gorgeous yellow glass beads. I made two pairs of similar earrings with the beads. One pair is for me, the other pair is still looking for a home!

WOW-I made these pins a million years ago for a swap! (Why haven’t I posted these before?! Who knows?) I loved grabbing random beads and charms from my stash and creating these lil’ beauties. These are perfect for shoving through flowers on layouts and altered journals. Quick post today but a few pics to share.
