Decluttering My Art Studio

February 4th, 2013 by Heidi Bound received 2 Comments »

I hate clutter. My mom would laugh because I spent most of my childhood making piles around my room. I was famous for taking a bunch of papers and just piling them up. Papers, pictures, school work…it didn’t matter. The piles would adorn the perimeter of my spacious bedroom. As an adult, I can’t stand it. I am so anal about it that I even have all the labels in the fridge facing forward. My poor husband.

I stumbled upon this decluttering site-probably on Pinterest and loved that I could add a daily decluttering chore to my icalendar. The site has some things that don’t pertain to me and doesn’t have enough about cleaning up an art studio. BUT, I make it work and if nothing else is a daily reminder to declutter and simplify a bit. I have doing a little at a time and am pleased with rediscovering new things in our home. I especially love organizing my art studio and have come across things that I have forgotten about.

I plan to share my progress little by little. I will try my best to remember to share the “before” pictures. I sometimes forget because I get so excited to dive into the project. I have been a section of our home at a time. Same with my artsy supplies. One shelf or corner at a time so I can make it “just right”.

Here’s a look at what I have done with my OODLES of sprays. I have lots from different companies and need them by colors and brands. It’s how my brain thinks. You have to do what works for you.

You could say I have a slight addiction to Glimmer Mist. I love the colors and the shimmer. But, they were taking up a lot of real estate on my shelf. I have bottles that were half full or even less. So, I combined like colors. I combined colors that were a shade or two off. Yep, some of you may be gasping. I don’t care about the exact color when I spray so this worked for me. I freed up SO much space by doing this. IMG_0334

Here are a few “red shades” waiting to be combined! IMG_0335

I sorted each color of the rainbow and combined the bottles as much as possible. Some weren’t combined because I wanted to keep them “as is” like that bottle of Jack O’ Lantern. LOVE that color!

IMG_0344Once I freed up all of that space, I was able to add my Chalkboard Mists, Perfect Pearls and Dylusions sprays to the shelf…by brand and rainbow order. Of course.
